Getting Pool Ready For Summer

Preparing Your Swimming Pool For Summer

Spring is on it's way and then Summer is apon us.  Most of us dont tend to look at the pool over those winter months.  Your pool may be covered and your pool equipment all stashed away.

After winter is a good time to get your pool and pool equipment ready for use.  Everyone loves jumping in the pool when that weather heats up!

Clean The Swimming Pool Cover

Before you lift off your pool cover, attach you pool brush to the telepole and sweep off any leaves, twigs, dust etc.  Also if any water has pooled on top of the cover, make sure this is wiped off ( and not into the pool as old water can be a breeding pond for all sorts).

Top Up Your Swimming Pool

Check the water level. It is normal for the water level to drop slightly over a long period.  We get asked all the time " how much water should I add?".  Fill it up until the water level hits the middle of the skimmer opening.

Once you have filled the pool, you will need to circulate the new and old water for approximately 8 hours.

The Most Important Part - Balancing The Water Chemisty

Before you invite the friends and family over for a dive-bomb summer pool party, you must check if you have any bacteria or algae.  Collect a water sample, bring it in to Pool & Property - 305b Payneham Road, Royston Park and we will test your water ( free of charge).

You will receive fast, accurate results and information on which chemicals you need, in the right quantity to get your pool swim ready. We test for the following chemicals:

  • Free Chlorine
  • Total Chlorine (or Total Bromine for spas)
  • pH
  • Total Alkalinity
  • Calcium Hardness
  • Cyanuric Acid
  • Iron
  • Copper
  • Borate
  • Total Dissolved Solids (TDS)
  • Phosphate
  • Manganese
  • Salt (for salt water chlorine generator pools)

We are committed to helping you keep your pool or spa's water in the best possible condition and recommend that you have it tested regularly - for pools, every 2-4 weeks in Summer and every 4-6 weeks in Winter and for spas, monthly.
